Also somewhat insightful to the nature of the “Archmages” that have risen to “Lead” the Academy. To effectively just have gained a level of power and sit on it seems to show that they wanted power for power’s sake, which is awful for the premier teaching academy of magic. And likely why so many other Academies are developing such a lowering regard for Wistrum.
Also, the act of the Academy to crush the beetle being actively studied by the Archmage of Izril, without regard for the possession of the beetle by Valetessaria, was extremely rude, and more note of that in the background look by Valetessaria should have been made.
Having pushed an area of basic research through sample development to world cutting edge, if someone abused sample gifted, or deliberately tried to abuse my equipment, they would have got an earful of respect realigning argument in their face. It takes some dedication to get that good at study and research development.
Grand Mage Eldavin is seeing these, and is pushing a platform of respect for people’s abilities, not just powers and positions. This could get really interesting.
The interaction with Trey and Valetessaria over Minizi is going to be interesting.

also i suppose that if even teriach respects magic only cuz bloody battle fireworks, and causing pandemonium to give a point across, this wackity wack of mages being muscle brained maniacs and the golem test makes, a bit more sense i suppose. But the names he spoke of are about 1 century back, i suppose there is no history classes of wistram… about wistram, but wouldnt he know names of even more renow than just the last of the [archmages]?, cognita could give the classes, unless of course such is also in the upper levels. dum dum

She was the first one to take hos challenge seriously, for what it was supposed to be. The other mages that cast spells before her were trying to “defend the archmages,” using pitiful spells that he could just ignore outright. She fired a spell that actually made him have to act (even if only to put up a single stone wall). Even the archmages themselves didn’t do anything against him before she – a lesser mage that was still given precedence at the high table – took up the challenge properly.

Zelkyr was mentioned by Feor as becoming the “undisputed master of Wistram,” so it is.likely he is directly responsible for much of it. Both sealing off the upper floors, so tons of magic was simply lost, but also forcing his own ideals on the place, like having the high table at one end of the hall with people seated by order of decreasing importance.

It has also been hinted at that no one currently has the actual [Archmage] class because they don’t learn some types of magic – namely, necromancy and possibly blood magic, maybe some others. This alone would set things back massively, as there are probably only spells and Skills given to that Class, and not lesser ones like High Mage or Grand Mage. So there’s definitely been a decline beyond whatever Zelkyr did, but he has undoubtedly made things much, much worse. Information like needing to study all forms of magic to become an [Archmage] would have certainly been contained to the upper floors, so knowledge such as that was lost.

The fight scene was described in detail and we readers could visualize it. One of the chapter where we dont care about word count, would have enjoyed it even if were twice as long!
