It has always seemed to me that some of the ideas that the author had bouncing around crystallized and became a story from this point on.

Wiskera isn’t in Mavika’s Coven, as of book 12 rewrite.
“Witch Mavika, is this the same group that attacked your coven? Wiskeria’s?”
No doubt they’d swarmed the poor [Witches] of Wiskeria and Mavika’s coven. Rie bit her lip.

oh dear, im sure riverfarm will not suddenly increase its population of gentlemen of culture.
mmm, i suppose laken would not do as the circle, and blood bound, ah, yes, the circle already had them bloodbound, but u got witches of old, maybe they can subvert the contract?, i suppose thats in order. make lady rie fully yours!, lol, phrasing, but really.
mm, tyrion not quite done yet then, pretty much in the background, would be dissapointing that the couriers failed.

The empire had setbacks, but not the emperor, the worst personal stake the emperor ever lost was Sacra’s betrayal.

While no definitive proof, there’s been a dozen or so hints that Laken has received advice on how to become a proper ruler from some mysterious male figure, which occurred during the winter. Right around the time multiple other characters met with some creepy figures on the solstice, at least one of which has been pretty solidly proven to be a former (and presumed “dead”) god – Tamaroth. Who just happens to be, coincidentally, the “god of rulers.”

Given that we’ve seen no evidence of anyone else that would have reason to give Laken advice, even assuming they somehow had a way to know he was an Emperor and be able to contact him, I’d put it at about a 95% certainty we can safely say Laken made contact with Tamaroth during the winter solstice.

Magnolia definitely decided to take a rain check on the crazy, so we’ve only got El and Veltras

if the Meeting of the Tribes were any earlier, I’d think the biggest Gnoll Chieftain or Chieftess would make #3, but the meeting is south of Pallass and too close to the Solstice for it to work out

It isn’t just trouble. They are trying to kill her, and she has no one that is able to protect her. Her servants are not high enough level to protect her from another attempt like this, her artefacts can protect her, but not infinitely.
I don’t see her having much choice but to run, especially since Teriach is ‘sleeping’.
