The death of sacra is, really, inconsequential, expert infiltrator will be replaced with a drake variant at the end of the day, uh, week.

None of her planning saved her, none of her supposed good politicking saved her, her life is just randomly saved for the hell of it! Why? I love all of Pirates other stories but oh man can she just not write political drama

I would agree with the OP about the Assassin’s Guild being pretty unimpressive. Yes, they would have won had it not been for the rings from Teriarch… but the fact that they felt they needed five master assassins to pull off the death of a single Lady is kind of pathetic. At most they should have three: two to hold off Ressa and deal with any other servants, and one to kill Magnolia. Realistically, only two getting the job done would have been a much better showing, one for Tessia and one for everything else.

Every time we’ve seen the Guild in action so far, it’s just been trying to overwhelm people with numbers. That is not the hallmark of good assassins. They are going way more for quantity over quality, and even what “quality” they have is pretty terrible.

Exactly! People are acting like preventing the assassination of a fellow noble you don’t really like makes up for the attempted murder of a 100,000+ city’s worth of innocents and children. It is insane! I don’t want Tyrion to be redeemed, he doesn’t deserve it. In world everyone acts all shocked that Magnolia was threatening his kids as if he wasn’t actively trying to murder thousands of them at that very moment. He can’t even seem to comprehend that without his constant fighting with the Drakes I doubt there would have been an sort of assassin there to kill him or his family originally. I’m sure his wife would have been real proud of him massacring an entire city’s worth of innocents.

Seconded. Also don’t forget he deliberately let the goblin lord’s army hit human settlements to get them in position, then death marched the goblin tribes with children and all, hired criminals to steal the magic door, planned to commit an atrocity at Liscor, then marched to the Bloodfields just to kill some Drakes because he didn’t get to slaughter a city.

Drawing the line at letting assassins kill another human noble because he wants to kill her himself didn’t make him an honorable man, sorry.

Often things in this story seem contrived, but this is all believable. I can totally believe that Magnolia would be over-confident in her own security, that the Circle would have big heads from their small victories, and that Tyrion wouldn’t approve of assassinating Magnolia.

The opposite is true too. It is Hard to take a death seriously if death rains from above, because it desensitives the readers to it. Another supposedly important character died? WHO cares after the tenth time?
Cough game of cocks Cough.
