ah well, finishing the chapter perhaps i rambled too quickly, it just TAKES A FIFTH OF THE CHAP, bloody hek, with what balls does salys intend to mingle with erin, didnt he gave up the information of stats to chaldion?, wait, HE CAN TAKE THEM OFF, hahahahahahahahahahaahahah. fuck sake

well at this point i suppose any advancements doesnt matter, since demons gonna get guns soon, and there are boomas on baleros, and looks like we gonna get gliders on izrill. Chandrar and terandria dont think gonna get some modern revolution, unless of course we get some random earther outanowhere developing the atom bomb. And if fnot, maybe a random chemist making magic mustard gas. in a bottle.

But the way he talked made it seem like there is no way to make a decent bike out of steel pipes when its actually very possible and common.

> It didn’t matter if they were rich, like Lady Salkis, who had demurely paused with her bodyguards, hiding the strange artifact she couldn’t puzzle out.

Oh nice one I missed that detail. It’s totally not something from another world which was stolen before *wink wink*

The main problem would rather be the weight. A typical horse weighs around 1,000 pounds, which is gonna be 5-6x what even a fairly heavy human weighs. Most bikes can only support about 300 pounds at the high end, so a centaur would be multiple times heavier than even that. Having a longer frame would mean more stress between the wheel supports.

It wouldn’t be impossible to build something a centaur could use, but it would probably end up heavy enough to not make it very worthwhile.

It also sounds less like they are digging downwards into the mountain, rather than horizontally or even upwards, so very likely not hitting much water. They’re basically slowly excavating the entire mountain as they built the city onto it.

Even if they do encounter water, though, just rent a hydromancer to clear it out. Much easier than using steam engines.

Three things you got wrong:

One, the Skill itself didn’t cause Erin to start bleeding. She hit her nose on the ground when she fell over after freezing, since she couldn’t move to break her fall.

Two, Zevara couldn’t use the skill on Erin unless Erin was breaking a law or seen as a criminal.

Three, Mars could probably shrug off the skill because she’s level 60+, not 40. A level 40 warrior or Lord/Lady might be able to break the skill easier, but it would probably also depend on the type of crime they committed. Erin also seems like the type to just be completely blindsided by such a skill, compared to someone combat focused, or who used etiquette as a weapon.

I imagine making hollow steel tubing would be much more difficult when only having a forge and medieval tools.

Having the entire frame made of solid steel bars, rather than hollow ones, would make it somewhere close to double the weight, I believe.

So, yes, a modern steel bike frame is not that heavy. But one that Pelt could easily produce? Probably a decent bit heavier. Maybe not prohibitively so, but likely heavier than you would want, if it wasn’t enchanted.

I doubt they were really completely unknown, just seen as less practical, and the city didn’t have anyone that could produce a crossbow strong enough to be worthwhile. Regular bows are easier and probably cheaper, and also likely more efficient to teach for the military-minded drakes. And gnolls seem to have a fetish for bows, as well. Skills would also make many of the benefits of crossbows less useful – not useless, but they wouldn’t be as much of an advantage as they would be somewhere without Skills.
