I feel like you don’t understand how much of professional writing is reading the book, then rereading it, then rewriting it, over and over and over again.

“… and husbanded it, in husbands, but also the far more practical buisiness of ships and trade.”

–> and husbanded it, in husbands, but also the far more practical business…

Several instances of “Lacel” rather than “Lancel”

You should read more carefully. Griffon Hunt didn’t go to fight her, they went to try and stop the other adventurers. And they arrived too late, when the battle had already started.

At that point, they could either attempt to help out, or run away and be labeled as cowards.

It makes sense because of the city’s size. When building a wall taller, you can’t just only build it taller, you also have to make it wider so that it won’t simply fall over. Making the wall even double the height would probably require 3-4 times the amount of stone. That isn’t going to be trivial for how long of a wall the city likely has.

Invrisil has a population greater than most cities in the modern United States. In fact, it has a population that would make it the 10th largest city in the entire country. And Innworld doesn’t have massive skyscrapers like we do on Earth to house significant portions of people. Yes, you’d have some decently tall buildings, and apartments, and all that. But the city is still going to be massive.

Using more modern numbers for population density compared to medieval era estimates, the city is still probably something like 30-40 miles in diameter, at minimum. Which means a wall around the entire city is going to be about 125+ miles long. That is a huge amount of stone needed to surround the entire city.

Also, while there are jobs available that are gold rank, that doesn’t mean they are necessarily close by. Gold rank threats are not just going to be popping up all the time, they would likely be much rarer than silver rank jobs. So, it makes sense to consolidate all those jobs at a hub location, from which teams can move out to deal with them. Travel times to and from such jobs, along with the difficulty of doing the job itself, means a given team would probably be taking at least a week or two per job. Compare that to silver rank jobs that might take only a day or two.

In other words, the area directly around the city is likely mostly safe from anything that could reasonably threaten even 10 foot walls. Outside of rare exceptions like the event in this chapter, larger walls wouldn’t be needed.

His choice of clothes (or lack thereof) would at least allow him to not going flying at Belavierr’s every whim.
