The forgetfulness definitely doesn’t seem to just be among those from earth though. Illvris has been more than once mentioned to have trouble remembering Periss (sp? I’ve only read her name in audio), yvlon and ceria there’s been a whole big thing about how quickly they’ve been able to move forward after losing their teams how they also only seem to remember about the very painful and recent loss when it’s brought to their attention, The faerie flowers powers are so important because they ARE memory, there were others I remembered when I started to write this but they’ve already slipped my mind (which is kind of funny really). These are all things that are very important to the people who are losing the memories, it bothers them when they remember they’re forgetting in the same way the earthers are bothered….and they’re not long past memories this is all within six months. Not only that but their perception of time seems quite off in a way that feels connected to the way they just forget this stuff as if it’s something that happened a long time ago. So so so many times a two people will run into each other and comment that it’s been so long only for it to turn out to just be a week or two, or maybe 3 at most, people can’t seem to say when something happened, like during the rains repeatedly people knew that it had been raining for such a long time, but then they wouldn’t be sure, was it four weeks, 5?6?

If people don’t know what to look for, they’d start asking… because?

Do they just magically get the sense there’s something worth looking into and spend time and effort into it? Or do they have a Skill to suddenly learn sulfur and other stuff can be turned into a bomb despite seemingly nobody discovering that after multiple millennia? This will likely bite them in the ass but your idea makes no sense. You might as well argue every alchemist has at least 2 rogues over their shoulders because someone saw all the stuff they buy to make their potions and wanted to make sure they weren’t up to anything naughty.

Now, bumbas, feels weird that the engineer didnt gain some levels from that, or a skill related to it, isnt it entirely new thingie worth a shiton of exp?, demolitions especialist, a nice ring to it, not bringing it up is just plain moronic, then again, when they are kidnapped only the maker knows the stuff. from trebuchet spam into early cannona… that just means that uppity mages are less valuable ha!.

I’d say a big reason why it wouldn’t be highly sought after is due to monsters and magic.

Making black powder on a small scale is fairly simple. Making it on a large enough scale to make it viable for war, however, is extremely dangerous. Powder depots were usually heavily guarded and very carefully maintained, because even a tiny accident can have devastating consequences.

In Innworld, with any random Joe potentially able to cast magic that might set off a bunch of powder, guarding a depot would be much trickier. The wrong monster attacking, or even bandits or assassins, and all your powder is gone, along with a bunch of guards and probably expensive enchantments and such.

If the recipe was ever discovered at all in the past, it was probably just deemed not worthwhile. There wouldn’t be much need to develop it at scale when you can call up a mage or three and have the same effect, quicker and much safer.

To add onto this a bit, even Ryoka doesn’t seem to think of her parents themselves overly often. She remembers effects that surround them, like her annoyance at their actions and what they tried to force her to do, or things like her father’s connections for getting her out of trouble. But she never really thinks of her parents, specifically, any more than the other Earthers seem to.
