I feel its more likely that the area is filled with inert gas like Argon, just like some modern smelting methods. Otherwise her blood would boil from being stuck in a vacuum.

But it wouldn’t make a ringing sound then, would it?

as for this magic smithing thingy, i suppose they magically keep the preassure inside the void bubble?, no mention of it, nor protection for the lungs, is not just not being able to breathe, but ur blood litterally becoming vapor, what do u think happens when an astronaut goes for a space walk with no vac suit, just 20 seconds of wonder, and then black out. Or if u dont want to get out of the planet, wonder what happens to divers if they try to get to the surface as quickly as possible, going in out in out for 8 hours?, verily magicks indeeeeeed.
as for the rage for purity… im not sure… im told that steel is an alloy of iron+carbon… therefore u cant have “pure” steel, and the concentration of carbon varies from 1-5% iirc, with some varying qualities depending of the process of quenching. many many phases that the alloy goes through, ah but it is magic forging and therefore not wrong.

the fluff with erin was acceptable, my only complain remains that it is jarring trying to make erin smarter than she is.

I love it and am totally obsessed. I see the value of this particular chapter, but I’ll admit I zoned out a bit. If there’s a payoff later on, then I’ll be grateful. Otherwise, I would agree that this chapter needs trimming. I saw that a baseball scene fan also liked this chapter – maybe that is the issue for me. I did not enjoy the lengthy baseball scene. The issue isn’t the writing – the issue is me. It felt like this chapter is like the part of video games that is the “grind,” and I’m just an impatient toddler eager to get to the action. I can deal with a little grind for the sake of this story, though. I’m looking forward to reading more!

I think you’re missing a big point, in that she’s also coming at this from the angle of “he’s the King of Destruction’s best blacksmith”.

Think about all the other stuff she was expecting to see when she got there. A huge castle, caravans of gold, silk sheets on every bed. Legends and myths about this famous being come to life. And this is supposed to be the best smith he has.

Adding onto that, she’s young, and has been brought up her entire life as being an “inferior” smith simply because of her gender. So she’s comparing an inferior, female smith to the best smith of perhaps the most famous King on the continent.

Most of the hate stems from Flos being a fair bit of a munchkin character. Other than the slavery stuff (which only Trey really makes a fuss about; Gazi doesn’t like it, but also doesn’t really complain about it) he seems to be able to do no wrong (except to people that see him as an enemy), he’s stronger than most everyone, he’s apparently a better King than most other rulers, etc.

In a lot of ways, he’s kind of like an OP anime protagonist, which is fine for some stories, but doesn’t always make for the best characters.

This was basically what I was thinking on a reread. If the circle only evacuated oxygen and any gaseous compounds that can create oxidation, there really shouldn’t be too many problems. Or even potentially just exchange those compounds for a 100% nitrogen workspace, perhaps. That should give essentially the same amount of pressure as normal.

It’s also possible it isn’t a complete vacuum. You’d really only need to get rid of oxygen and any gaseous compounds that can cause oxidation in the metal. Any other gases, especially the inert ones, you could leave. If the composition of air in Innworld is the same as on Earth, that means you should still have about 75% of the normal air pressure.
