I agreed a thousand percent with Ceria when she said it was boring…and then the chapter was so much fun. Great bait and switch, baseball? Blech, magic baseball? Bring it on!

Same. I haven’t played since I got out-voted in high school, but I felt the sun on my face and the team spirit from the text!

A bit in doubt the denizens of magic world had no games like so, even the mayans and incas had their ball game, of course the losers or in some case the winners got sacrificed, but they had them. I suppose only the congregation of very high level people would make this game a hit.

the teams were imba tho, what was doing wesle in one, is the dream team!. on a side note, rabbiteater gonna become some baseball class upgrade innit?.

Some levity after two really heavy arc (and before, as I imagine from the name and art of book 9) is really appreciated. Thanks for that, it was just really nice to read. Also, goblins not being immediately ostracized? And in another city? Huh, guess that natural allies Skill is doing its thing, sorta.

The original is correct, if you think about the normal physics. You can only hit a ball with so much force, which means hitting it too high will result in the ball traveling a much shorter horizontal distance. This implies Moore was not only able to hit it extremely high, but with enough force that the ball also went extremely far, unlike what any other non-half-giant person could do.

I’d say this would be a good idea, and would probably normally be done, except for monsters. Which is likely the reason we don’t see many things that we’d consider easy entertainment options in Innworld. No one seemed to be like “oh, so it’s like stickball!” or anything similar when Erin introduced baseball, but we know that cultures around the world on Earth have almost always “invented” a similar type of game. Monsters would make many things fairly impractical, for your average person.

For example, skiing during the winter in Liscor would be great, until you had someone run into a rock crab hiding in the snow. Water polo could be doable, so long as no rock crabs, lurkersnatch fish, flat fish, or a school of quillfish was around.

Not saying all sports would be impossible, particularly anything where you could make a field/pitch/arena inside the city walls.

Flawless Attempt actually wouldn’t be that great for baseball. It only allows Lyonette to do the best possible attempt she would naturally be capable of. Meaning, a Flawless catch would require her to be in position and able to catch the ball to begin with. For example, she couldn’t be over on first base and Flawless Catch a ball that went between second and third. Even if a hit went between first and second, there would be a good chance she couldn’t normally catch such a thing. The ball would basically have to be going exactly in her direction, and then she would be guaranteed a catch.

A Flawless hit would be easier. Since any pitch that was within the zone should technically be able to be hit, even an impossibly fast magic pitch would be hit table if you swing at the correct time. But that doesn’t mean she’d get an automatic home run, or that someone would be able to catch or field the ball normally after she hit, it just means she would be guaranteed to make the hit in the first place.

“Alright, the final game is going to begin! Clear the field or you’ll get hit! All Mrshas must leave the field at once!”

Mrsha, who had been playing in the grass, looked up. She gazed around, realized she was the only Mrsha and gloomily left the field. She perked up when Lyonette offered her a cool drink. Erin was making a small fortune on food for her audience, although her regulars hadn’t paid. Yet.

Unbelievable, this is anti Mrsha discrimination!
