I skipped this the first time. I read through the second time and I disagree with a lot of the comments. This is genuinely good storytelling. The motivations of each party are apparent to those who look for them. It’s just a hard read that’s all. Definitely neccesary and masterful writing that makes you feel even if only anger and frustration.

His chessmaster plans within plans don’t jive well with this info. Like, this was Titan level of planning/information control. Just a horsedude.

The only way I can see it is if he picked up on Lady Bevia’s scheming and decided to blindly trust her that something was in the works beyond his understanding? Maybe pirateaba is trying to show his inexperience? Not sure why but it’s definitely a dumb decision.

Come on! Literally why is everything going good for Laken than the rest of our characters?! No really! Why not let him lose things from time to time? Then Rags is gonna suffer now when she was clearly winning if not for that dick Tyrion. Though I still hate Laken. He is arrogant. If Tyrion was not there, he knew well Rags would assail the whole village and kill everyone. No one will benefit. He is prideful. He was the first to shed blood. I just feel like he feels as if he was the one who perished here when they literally killed and slaughtered every goblin they came across. Acting as if he’s the only victim here. I care not one bit for his empire and him as well for all I care. The thing about him is I feel like he acts as if he was all good yk yk. What a dick.

For me it’s the exact opposite: I’ve hated them since the very beginning, but this goblin arc was actually great!

Continuing the fight just causes more death. This would be like if Germany decided to not surrender after WWI and WWII. Case in point, Laken refused then more people died before Trion arrived

Perhaps his designs included the very obvious dip of the ladies, would be pretty upsetting that they called the attack just to get out of the village, very standar for normal noblos, even tho they just seen the summer court.
well, it would be very interesting if rags were to die, tho only erin would care and nobody gonna tell her shit if it happens. Doubt it, even if the rest of the tribes gets rekt, only the survival of rags would matter for the story. tfc

I loved the idea of the Laken and Rags clashing, but this arc was… bad.

And by bad I don’t mean tragic, reading through this conflict is ok, but the characters feel off. And I think that goes a lot for Laken. Rags is fairly in character, and she works quite well, thus I was much more engrossed with her side of the story, but every time it went back to Laken, this character I’ve taken for someone really smart and quite affable, he just felt way out of character. He kept condensing goblins to “unfeeling idiotic monsters”, which is alright, until the moment he gets outsmarted by the goblins. Like… I expected at some moment for him to go “wait a moment, my view of these beings is not right” but he never properly did it. Sure, he kinda did in front of Rags when they talked, but that was late. Too late.

Maybe I’m giving too much credit to Laken, but I honestly thought he was smarter than what has been displayed here. I can accept him overseeing the treachery in his lands, and I can accept gim being enraged to the point he won’t take peace, but I cannot believe he never properly took a moment to stop and think “wait, there’s something wrong here. Why am I losing?” And action understand it. He’s smarter than that, he pulled a whole village up from a wreck, he made plus and almost broke one of Magnolia’s ploys.

Maybe I’ll bite my words. Maybe I’ll read further and understand why his character was broken so badly here, I hope I do. I really really hope, cause I want to. Badly. For now I’m getting out of the story bitter and likely my least favorite arc. Sorry for the negativity here, still thanks for she story, I just needed to take it off and create a mark for me to come back and laugh at myself and how I actually didn’t get this part at all. Hopefully.
