This is incorrect. Okasha wasn’t able to heal the damage to Geneva’s spine, so leaving her body would make Geneva paralyzed and possibly too damaged to function enough to continue living. Okasha herself was also damaged due to Geneva having to cauterize a large portion of her body to save her, so both of them are not at 100% functionality.

So long as the selphid doesn’t destroy any organs or necessary living tissue while residing in a living host, there is no indication that the selphid leaving would be fatal. We know Geneva can function while Okasha is sleeping, so unless the selphid has completely replaced parts of the host body, the host body should still function normally if the selphid was removed.

Cognita didn’t exactly teach him to make Toren, she taught him the animation spells that were used to make her, and the other golems similar to her. Pisces was then able to adapt that – and, really, improve upon it – to make Toren.

I also don’t know if Cognita “knows” magic in the same way a mage would. She knows of it, and how to counter/defeat magic, but I don’t believe it was ever implied she can use it herself. If she can’t utilize magic in the same way a mage can, what she could teach would be fairly limited, almost certainly not enough to consider a master/apprentice relationship.

I also doubt that his statement was in reference to Cognita. Pisces would be more likely to call Az’Karesh a monster than he would Cognita. After all, Cognita is just following the orders given to her, while Az’Karesh chose himself to wantonly slaughter huge numbers of people on multiple continents.

This is one of my favourite chapters I must say. It’s nice and refreshing to see Pisces making friends. There was way too much drama for my health lately.

I’m just reading this chapter now and was looking for a discussion like this because I feel like its Cognita too but glad to see someone else thinking about this recently. And I love your idea haha!
