Please let it be real. Or revive her. I cried so much in the chapter because she died.

Along with the other replies to this, you’re forgetting that Teriarch is tens of thousands of years old. He’s probably done things a number of times like you are suggesting.

And that means he’s also seen how the effects of those things propagate throughout hundreds or thousands of years. Some of it has probably been good, sure. And a lot has also probably been bad.

The Law of Unintended Consequences is a thing because no one is perfect. You can try do things that should, in a perfect world, be unquestionably good for everyone. But the world isn’t perfect. And people are often greedy, awful beings. So that unquestionably good thing is good for a while… and then the greedy, awful people get a hold of it and turn it into something worse than what would have happened if you never did it in the first place.

Realistically speaking, there’s also nothing that says a goblin can’t become a necromancer on his/her own. Even if Teriarch knew the Goblin Lord was a necromancer, there’s no real reason to immediately jump to the conclusion he’s somehow connected to Az’Karesh.

It’s not like Pisces and Az’Karesh are the only two necromancers in the world, or even on Izril. There are probably hundreds. The Goblon Lord’s shamen are also able to control the undead, so it’s not unreasonable to assume the Lord just classed up from a normal shaman into a proper necromancer.

People in the comments need to remember that we, as readers, see far more than the characters in the story would be privy to.

Don’t forget that Skinner was actively attacking the inn, while Erin was defending it.

Venitra, for all the fight occurred in the inn, was not targeting the inn itself, or even its patrons, really – she was only after Ryoka. The only reason the fight at the inn occurred at all was because Erin basically forced it. That is generally not a very innkeeper-y thing to do.

If they had beaten Venitra, she likely would have gotten more levels, but I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if those levels weren’t even for her Innkeeper class.

It was also pretty well hinted at that Teriarch is very out of shape. We know he was at least slightly more active when Magnolia was younger, but if he’s been mostly snoozing for however many hundreds or thousands of years, it’s quite likely he’s not nearly as strong as he should be.

She never would have become friends with Ivoleth if she had a class. She also may learn Fae magic. At least running with the wind. And that may be stronger than you could get with any class in that short of a time.

You say she should think more about getting a class???
She can’t get one anyway. What would it do to think about it? It would destroy you mentally. That’s destructive thinking. “I could have saved all of them if only I had a class.”
Honestly we know it wouldn’t change a thing. She wouldn’t have beat the Goblin Lord. She couldn’t have won against Az’kerash servants. Running with the wind seems like a better power up to me.
