Ah thank you for pointing this out! I do hope Pirateeva eventually does a rewrite and edits this as well as some other things that didn’t sit right with me

His Majesty isn’t mocking totems nor capitalizing on them or their history for profit. The entire concept of “carving symbols into a hard surface for others to see” is hardly unique.

This is just taking a good idea and rolling with it.

Those are sacred to the tribes that use them, and while I have read ahead and understand what the poles are used for (which i do think is a clever way to use them) I hope that if this volume ever gets rewritten that the use of native American imagery can be swapped out or otherwise reworked

It’s definitely a matter of perception, but also practicality.

A Lord would generally have quite a number of subjects, hundreds at the very least, if not multiple thousands. It is simply not practical for someone to care about each individual when you are ruling that many people. Assuming that Innworld people aren’t vastly different mentally than Earth people, a person literally cannot keep track of and care about anywhere close to that many people – even a few hundred would lead to many of them fluctuating in and out of our capacity to truly care about them as individuals.

However, a Lord could definitely care about his or her people, in a general sense. If they only ruled over a single village like Laken does, then sure, caring about everyone is doable. But even getting up to 3 or 4 villages, you’d start caring more about the village as a whole, rather than as individuals. In doing so, it would quite likely appear as if you didn’t care about the people, though, since Person X would be just as important as Person Y; none would be any more or less special than any other, so there’s no need to treat any individual in a special manner.

These next few will be a bit of a chore for me like the 4.K chapters

Nothing would do but I let her grab it again.
Feels like a grammatical error, the sentence fragment after ‘but’ does not match up. Suggestion based on some examples I googled:
Nothing would do but that I let her grab it again.

The woman claimed there was fighting and they were helped to escape.
woman -> women
Since it’s not a specific woman talking but rather the group as a collective.
