Well, this side story i liked, but it is not erin or ryoka.
and i believe the volume is not over either oh well

A selphid’s level.will also probably determine body priority within their society. Calectus, as a high level, would be able to get the best quality dead bodies to.use – freshly dead (so barely any rotting), few major physical wounds, etc.

Other selphids would have to settle for what they can get. A rotting body wouldn’t be nearly as sturdy, so an attack that might not hurt Calectus too much could do much more to another selphid. If they were in bodies with lots of open wounds, even if those wounds don’t matter much to the selphid itself, it could still mean significantly more heat getting to the internals, cooking the selphid inside. Lower levels also generally means less skills to protect oneself.

A high level mage setting fire to the entire camp could easily take out most the helper selphids, if they were unlucky. The few that survived could have been dealt with by the dullahan assassins.

Imho i think we’ve passed the verge of plot armour long ago. Between Ryoka knowing things she shouldn’t or not knowing things she should it’s really wishy washy and inconsistent. For the easiest example, Explaining a martial art as “just, grace” instead of a practise that needs to be mastered which she literally said moments before. Things like the forced parallel could be improved but anyway.

Erin being as un-smart as a 10 year old but somehow always convincing people to side with her is also weirdly plot armorish. Not to mention the comments about addition and subtraction maths being “nerdy”.

Maybe i wouldn’t call it plot armour but its definitely Plot convenience and a lot of the “antagonists” have been handed idiot balls.

I’d also like more to the characters than just caricatures of their hobbies. but thats me being too critical i guess.

How many times has superman been in a fight that wasnt mostly internal tension and then resolved by realisation. He’s rarely in climactic moments that involve a guy just shooting at him. The only time thats shown is to establish his lack of weaknesses to contrast his social weaknesses. but anyway that is verging on a strawman anyway.

The enormous work is definitely worth the respect but it doesnt make the lack of planning any less obvious. Your book example is fine but for serials less so. Serials can be revised whenever. No one writes a whole book and goes “Ill start the next one instead of editing.”

“Rewriting is writing.”

On the contrary. It’s been clearly established that selphids are not immortal, that their entire empire was wiped out, and that if you know there’s a selphid inside local warriors know where to stab to hit the selphid for an instant kill. Selphids are tough to kill, but no more so than dullahans.

They’re just very hard to kill of you don’t know you’re up against one.

Love the chapter as always, found a spelling mistake I think.

“Aiko and Luan were starting at her,”

Could be wrong but I assume you meant staring. Anyway can’t wait to keep reading more :) I’m late to the game but loving every chapter!

How many times has Superman died? Or the other superheroes, for that matter? In a sense this is a larger manifestation of Pirateaba’s verbal tic of repeating the same words in the same sentence–repeating the same situations for the same emotional effect.

However.

This enormous work is worthy of respect. It’s good, and I’m sure it will be great once Pirateaba revises it. But first they need to finish the story. One of the worst mistakes a writer can make is to go back and revise earlier chapters before finishing the entire book.
