Historically, this word has been used to dehumanize Indigenous and tribal peoples, and because of that history it still carries a lot of racialized weight.

What stood out most to me was its use in an earlier chapter to describe Myrsha eating in a “savage” manner. Given that Gnolls are a tribal people in the story and are sometimes explicitly dehumanized and compared to animals by ignorant humans (something the narrative itself frames as harmful), that description felt especially uncomfortable and at odds with the story’s own values.

I don’t think this is intentional, and I’m not saying it to criticize Pirateeva. I’m sharing to gently call attention, in case other readers might see this and feel validated. And to encourage some reflection around how inherited language can carry meanings we don’t always intend.

I feel so much respect, admiration, and emotional investment in this story, and I am such an avid and committed reader, and that is one of the reasons why I’m taking the time and energy to write this. It’s out of love and a wish to protect the sacredness of this story.
Even though I’m not a typo finder, I see this as a similar way of making my small contribution to refine and polish this incredible work of art :)

Every character (of the prominent humans) is unique in his or her own way and it feels realistic. I hope the Negotiatior and the Doctor continue to be a part of the story as reoccurring side characters and maybe one day meet Erin or Ryoka.

also the commander knows everyone is touchy for night raids, and decides to clean off the parts close to camp, should have known stray arrows, or stuffas was going to happen.

I think the drunkenness is mostly a matter of the Americans in this group being youngish, below the legal drinking age. Many teenagers will go absolutely crazy when they are given access to effectively unlimited alcohol for the first time.

For the national anthem, I would mostly agree, though. The only guess I have for that, is perhaps the one that was wearing the Cardinals hat is a big baseball fan. The anthem is typically sung before a baseball game, so they might know it fairly well. For the others, they might not know all the words, but probably enough that they might join in if someone started singing it while drunk.

I could be wrong, but I’m fairly sure Geneva’s spine was crushed. The officer guy did hit her in the back, twice, with a mace, and the second time she was on the ground – meaning she would be taking the full brunt of the force, since the ground was preventing any movement away from the attack. Okasha can bridge the gap between broken parts of her spine, but wouldn’t be able to actually heal her. Even with someone like Pisces that could put the bones back together, if the nerves are completely broken as well, it very well might not be something fixable at all, even with healing potions.

It’s quite likely that Okasha could leave her body, though I don’t think Okasha was whole either, unless she’s fully regenerated from the damage Geneva did by cauterizing her wounds. Neither one would likely die from her doing so, at this point, but Geneva would still be paralyzed and Okasha might not be fully functional either, if she went into another body.

Yeah but they’re the established main characters, they’re the ones that moves or are at least involved in 99%of the plot points

Even the most pig-headed, patriotic, American idiots do not tend to get drunk and sing the national anthem. As a matter of fact they may not even know the words.?? That is a more European thing. They are much more likely to just chant, “USA! USA! USA!”.
