Mary Sue is an unhelpful descriptor in 99.9% of cases I have seen it. It’s used as a blanket term and character attack on any female protagonist with a modicum of talent. This strikes me as a beyond facile descriptor, because, as is made painfully obvious by tales as old as Gilgamesh, to modern icons like Harry Potter and Star Wars, the hero’s tale is rooted in those with exceptional qualities. Strength, intelligence, social skills, sheer drive, or some alternate form of talent or special ability. In reality ‘Mary Sue’ is a term utilised primarily as a gendered descriptor for characters some people find make them feel inadequate. And I do say a gendered term, as that is the context ii is primarily used. How many comments of Mary Sue are there in the comment sections of genre adjacent novels like primal hunter or He Who Fights with monsters or even System Universe. None, or at least I haven’t seen any. Sorry for the rant but I just hate uneducated generalisations in comments, without at least a token justification to masquerade as non-destructive criticism. I also hate bad grammar but that is beside the point. Ryoka is a great character and if you’re going to criticise how she’s been written, I feel I would not be remiss in demanding at least a more thoroughly thought out opinion. Or spare the comments and keep your opinions to yourself.

I was sad that Buddhism didn’t get more time to shine in the religions lesson… I guess we’re all biased towards our own particular beliefs!
Also I really want to see how this barmaid conflict is sorted out – I hope it has a satisfying resolution!

Omg wait that would be sooo so cute!!! Wow very long term payoff for that. I was a bit sad that Erin didn’t befriend her at the beginning. The first person she encountered in Innworld who was friendly towards her. Now after all this time!! :’)

She’s basically Bruce Wayne whom is an Olympian level athlete with a genius intellect. That was established super early and it’s kind of needed for her to even be able to compete in this world without classes. I personally think the narrative might have benefited if she’d just been written as having an eidetic memory but that’s basically my assumption anyway when reading her character. Her level of perfect recall really is inhuman but that’s okay I still enjoy her character.

And Pawn in, well, his position, i wonder if he would get a pope class after he makes up the antinium religion.
