Aw yay, another out queer reader in the comments! I feel so much less alone out here. I’ve also been lamenting the lack of representation in this story. This world feels like it would lend itself so naturally to lots of different queer themes and identities.
For example, most Selphids could easily be portrayed as gender-fluid, taking on different identities depending on which body they inhabit, and being on a spectrum when it comes to gender identity/ preference when choosing host bodies.
Knoll culture, or at least Krshia in the mating side story, seems very sexually liberated in a way that could signal a broader acceptance of queerness/non-monogamy/non vanilla sexuality in Knoll society. Also there are so many species that it would be easy to describe some of them as naturally intersex.
Plus, the themes of found family feel so very queer…
