Hmm that’s a good point! Although it seems like the red skills come when someone’s sense of self is violated. So maybe Pisces’s ego in present day is actually a really important survival trait, helping to protect him from everyone else’s distain and seeing him as a monster. If he himself let their opinions of him affect his sense of self, he might have gone the way of a red skill

You gave us all the info we needed and it flowed together pretty well. Sad to see everyone instantly turn against pisces. I was surprised to see that. I thought he’d at least have some supporters. It does make sense why his personality changed so much after this though…

I want to skip it so bad that I had to start supplementing the next couple chapters in between these interludes. For a series that and characters that I love (not Calvaron), I’m not sure why this side story is such a slog

“he’s the best second-year student at dueling, and debate and he’s one of only six students to have passed the Ice Demon’s class last year.”

Your first argument is actually incorrect: necromancy has only been hated so much since Az’Karesh. It was likely never popular, but it wasn’t an “unspeakable sin” as you call it.

You can even look to the end of the chapter and figure this out: it’s neither explicitly banned by Wistram – they just won’t teach it – and some mages – such as Illephres – are mostly fine with it. In addition, Teriarch himself doesn’t make any sort of big deal about Pisces being a necromancer, and also sends a birthday card to Az’Karesh. If it was something completely and utterly evil, I would think an old, very strong dragon would have more against it.

Ceria and Pisces weren’t the only two students left alive, and I imagine there was also a number of normal sailors and mercenaries as well. One of the Wistram mages that came later also.saw the undead on the ship.

Pisces didn’t really have a choice to raising how many he did. By the time he finished fighting with the pirate he was “dueling” with, other pirates were already coming aboard the ship he was on. He either raised more undead, or he died to those pirates.

Unless Pisces was literally the only survivor, there was pretty much no way he would have gotten away with it. There is no plot hole here, regardless of whether Ceria was there or not.
