You would think one might notice Sex = Babies after a period of time.

I mean realistically someone would figure out there is a correlation between how many levels someone has and how many classes they have almost instantly. It would be extremely obvious… Just ask 5 old people how many classes they have and what level they are…

She’s way too sure of the more video-game understanding. It could also be interpreted as diversification leading one to being less focused on one thing. Levels preserve your memories and current proficiency, so you’re less focused on one thing and less able to be incredible at it. I don’t know though, I read on.

I hope they’re drawing a snow dick :)

Why would they be aware of the cap? The world wanes and the system creators are long dead. They also aren’t looking from a meta perspective. They don’t know stuff from earth. It’s not something that makes sense, unless you are looking for fairness in the world, which would make them mentally deficient.

There are some believe that you have a maximum number of levels before you die. But most agree that that’s ridiculous.

Much the opposite. Believing the gods are dead is more suppressive than not believing anything at all. Also, Izril is relatively small and nonpopulous.

Thermoses would be great, but are somewhat invalidated by magic. Yes, keeping something hot or cold can be nice, but I imagine a nomadic tribe would rather just throw food in a large container and put that in a bag of holding, then heat it up later.

Airships would be cool… until that wyvern over there decides it’s hungry. Or those griffins. Or that pack of gargoyles shoots it full of holes. Or those frost faeries decide to freeze the entire ship.

Wings might be nice, but wouldn’t really serve that much purpose on their own. And again, anything flying has to take into consideration monsters, so probably mostly impractical.

Advanced math is great, but really only when you have many other things to apply it to. You also need lots of tools for measurements, as well as standardized measurements. Same with physical laws… if most of those were even applicable with magic involved.

Chemical reactions might be nice, but which reactions would actually be seen as useful to the gnolls? Like advanced math, most would serve little purpose without other infrastructure and such already in place.

Medical knowledge would be useful, but nearly all of it is going to need tools to both prove and do anything with. Unless she can also make a decently powerful microscope, things like germ theory will probably just get laughed at.

Just as in the chapter with Erin and Magnolia, much of the Earth knowledge people could bring requires other stuff to be useful. Yes things could be worth a fair bit… in 10 years when that infrastructure is actually in place.

As for skills and levels, leveling up does seem to increase base bodily stats. It might not be a huge increase, and what increases a person gets is probably tailored towards their classes. There means all those random class levels would potentially be giving inefficient stat increases.

Skills and passive buffs do seem to give much greater increases, but those are also probably going to be increases based off the base stats, which means higher levels in the correct classes will tend to be better. Erin got Lesser Strength as a passive, but her Innkeeper class likely doesn’t provide much increase to her base strength. So a Warrior of the same level, with the same passive, would have a higher base strength, making them considerably stronger than she is – especially if passive are percentage buffs, rather than a flat amount.

She’s playing devil’s advocate at first, because she’s simply explaining how the mechanics are similar to games in our world.

However, Klbkch basically confirms that the ‘age theory’ is incorrect. Not only did the First Queen continue to level even though she was hundreds/thousands of years old, but he himself did as well. Even though he is currently old, and he died recently, he’s back to a total of 64 levels. Which means he is still leveling – just not in the same classes as he used to, because he isn’t actively using those classes nearly as much. How much has he had to utilize his Swordslayer or Assassin classes recently?

The Antinium Wars weren’t that long ago, and he died at least a few times during those, as well. Which, again, means he’s been regaining those lost levels pretty steadily, just not in the ‘right’ classes. His age hasn’t been slowing him down, just his usage of those classes.

Adding to that, even if you assume that her thoughts on a level cap – or even a soft cap – are completely invalid, things would still line up. It takes more ‘experience’ to level up as you get to a higher cumulative level, which means leveling takes increasingly longer until it’s nearly impractical, even if there is no significant jump in experience required similar to a soft cap. You would naturally begin to slow down as you aged, and without any reference to the games from Earth or something similar, thinking it is due to age would be an ‘obvious’ answer even if it wasn’t correct.

In addition, we know that leveling and skills are partially determined by adversity. The higher your level, the stronger you are, and the less challenging things will be in general. This means sources of ‘experience’ would be fewer and fewer as you leveled up, further slowing things down.
