It didn’t make something addictive, just appealing. It’s something that has a beneficial effect that people would want.

We don’t know exactly what the people who choose to level give up, but neither do we know the full extent of what they gain. Its possible leveling can outweigh what was given up.

Considering none of the natural residents of Innworld can see or hear the faeries, it’s also entirely possible that they’d never be able to earn whatever it is that is given up when choosing not to level.

Without knowing the facts, Ryoka’s decision – especially for many of the reasons she makes that decision – still isn’t particularly smart. She’s giving up power – and potentially lots of power – for a theoretical benefit, one that is likely tied to the faeries teaching her, since there doesn’t seem to be any real knowledge of why being without levels might be a good thing.

The faeries specifically told them before that they will not steal a boon just for thanking them.

In other words, some of the myths we have about the fae do not apply. I don’t remember offhand which others were explicitly stated as untrue.

Enfin, la coureuse a une vraie raison de ne pas vouloir monter de niveau avec ce que les fées ont sous-entendu.

Je m’attendais aux gobelins mais c’est des sortes de zombies en fait? On verra

The burst of noise and sound isn’t exactly like being hit by a real life stun grenade—

–> the burst of noise and light?

Just to make sure you know: “ye” is plural, not singular.

I a not sure if she has done it before, like Erin did. And it was Ryoka’s important advice to Erin: Don’t ever thank the faefolk, forget all common courtesy. Ryoka thanks them TWICE in this chapter, in a pretty offhand kannst like she forgot her own warning. She is willing to deal and bargain with the fae – that’s not bad per se, and her goal is noble, but open end deals like ‘we will pay any price’ is the was to have somethin horrible happen to you.

At least the fae are fond of children. Though if the final paragraphs are any indication, the entire rest of the tribe will have to pay the price.
