Prob shouldn’t have hit her agreed. Also should have figured out both that Toren was too intelligent and that he was abusing Lyonette or at least ordered Toren to verify of dismiss her claims. However she’s only human which I get, so it does make sense that she might let some things slip especially with her care free disposition, and she ultimately is doing the right thing. I wouldn’t usually say this for any other situation but frankly a lot of this is on Lyonette for not even pausing for a moment to advocate properly. The needless antagonism she generates, makes ignoring her a very human reaction.

But Erin is awesome. Despite her flaws, and her humanity, her stubborn morality, strength of character even when the whole world tries to bend her, is the reasonn I love this story. The reason I’m on my second read through of the audio book. It’s why I’m a fan!

It seems very co-dependent. I feel like she should say, hey here are the rules. You work, you respect me and everyone here, you get to stay. If not, you leave. Not I force you to work and try to teach you respect against your will.

This isn’t new information…

She even suggested bringing Yvlon alongside her. Is the difference that she wants to get out of Erin’s hair right at this moment rather than an idea for the future Ceria?

Well anyway, I’m so sad for Krshia and Erin’s friendship. And I really did love this chapter.

With the personification of Toren, and Erin making mistakes, especially that ending monologue. It was honestly beautiful.

Thankfully we don’t have to see too much of her being a brat a thousand times worse than Relc. And that Erin isn’t so much of a bleeding heart she wouldn’t give her what she deserves.

“…But I do know that if I don’t do anything, she will die. And that means her death will be because of me.”

I fail to relate to Erin on many things, but this is something I’m with her on, 100%. The correct answer to the trolley problem.
Choosing inaction is an action. Erin has to save her… because if she chooses not to, she is the one who has killed her. Moral mathematics. :(

If new readers stumble across this and for some mad reason want to do something with the wiki, be aware that it has been moved to a different site, and that the one linked is out dated.

So, someone comes up to you, someone you have zero reason to believe at all, and says ” X hit me!” and you ask for proof. And they obstinately refuse to do so, saying that their word should be good enough.

And that makes you crazy, because you want proof? What kind of delusions are you under?

And then, after you refuse to show proof of any wrongdoing, you continually make up ever-increasing stories of more wrongdoing… while again showing zero proof whatsoever.

Its not like Erin is asking for anything onerous. Toren hit her in the stomach? Pull up your shirt and show the bruise. It’s not difficult, Lyonette is just being a little Miss Prissy Pants. She has been shown multiple times now that “her word” means exactly nothing around here. Its going to mean exactly zero in this situation. She has an easy method of proof, and she chooses to not provide said proof, so that’s entirely on her at this point.

And yes, Erin knows Toren hit her, but when asked says he didn’t hit very hard. So Erin can now either trust Toren, who she has every reason to believe, or she can trust the spoiled, thieving, bitchy little twat of a girl that is doing her absolute best to make everyone around her despise her. And given how hard it was for Erin herself to try and get Lyonette to do anything at all, I imagine she has a perfect understanding of why Toren might have hit her in the first place.

And that makes Erin the crazy one. Right.

What slavery? Erin literally tells her she’d be paying her if Lyonette actually does work. If she doesn’t want to work, she can leave. Lyonette chose to work, and then tries to skip out on all of it, and she gets punished for doing so.

She can, at any time, leave. Nothing is stopping her. Assuming she isn’t trying to steal from Erin beforehand, in which case Erin is fully within her right to get her money and whatever else back.

Exile in these particular circumstances wouldn’t be a mercy. If anything, it would be an almost inhumane punishment, as a death by freezing is going to be much more painful than a clean execution – especially since, with skills and such, there would be almost no chance of e.g. “blunt instrument requiring multiple strikes to behead” or whatnot; one quick skill and she’s gone, with no chance of error.

Exile in a cold winter, with no significant clothing, and only an extremely minimal amount of food was a death sentence. Literally the only reason they didn’t do a normal execution – which was stated as being they would have done in other cases – was because of politics with her being nobility. Liscor was not “being nice” or anything of the sort, they were simply saving their own skins.
