The point *was* the sadism though, from Gazi’s side. She literally says “to make it hurt more” when she’s going to kill Ceria. Gazi knew Ceria was alive in the ruins, and deliberately waited for her to come out into “safety” before enacting her will. It’s a tale as old as time, give hope and relief to the despairing and then snuff out that hope again to exponentially increase their despair
