The issue there is these are veteran adventurers who just got hit with one of the most extreme danger senses anyone there has ever gotten, more extreme than even a legendary necromancer, and had plenty of clues the rest of the parties were dead, plus they were actively being chased by a horde of undead. Unless they all suddenly decided they were suicidal there is no sensible reason for them to just all stand around and wait for Skinner and the horde to reach them, as they should’ve known they stood no chance. Even assuming they didn’t want to leave without seeing Skinner first, the only sensible decision would’ve been to retreat back to the crypt they set up Illumination around and is right next to the way up to the first floor, at least that way escape would’ve been easier and they wouldn’t have been so easily surrounded.

The way this was handled genuinely does feel like death for the sake of shock value and an excuse to have Ryoka’s character development to once again regress now that she lost most of her friends and can’t make up with the Horns. Also “death comes unexpectedly and unfairly so it’s realisitic” is a terrible defense for a poorly handled death scene, this is a story, even if it’s an unexpected death it should still mean something and not just feel like a slap to the face.
